Large Victorian School Bell
In the 19th and most of the 20th century all schools would have a large heavy school bell to use in the playgrounds outside the school. Pity the child near the bell when it was rung as they were deafaning in close proximety, and made a deep resounding sound, that nobody could ignore. The earlier bells were made from Bell metal whuich is a combination of brass and bronze.
This Large bell is made from Bell metal with a solid Hard wood handle and would have been used in most schools of this period, in the country and the town.
Both bell and handle are in good condition.
