This is a fine quality mahogany box, beautifully constructed with military style brass corners and fitting.
The inside has a writing slope covered in the original velvet.
This type of box would be used by a gentleman officer on campagne, or simply used for travel to contain the papers he may need, the brass corners were fitted to protect against damage when travelling. The sides are fitted with brass flush handles for carrying.
 
Condition: in good condition throughout the exterior of the box, the inside has wear and marks to the fabric.
