Copper Coal Scuttle with Scoop
A hark back to the days before central heating, when an open fire was commonplace in every room of every house... Sacks of coal were delivered by horse and cart to the houses' coal bunker before smaller quantities were decanted into coal scuttles like this. Coal scuttles would be sat at the fireside so that the fire could be maintained and the scoop kept one's hands from getting sooty.
This particular example is made entirely of copper. It has an upper riveted swing handle and a handle to the back to help the user stabilise it. The scoop/shovel is also made from copper with an ebonised wood handle.
In very good condition.
Dimensions: 45cm across, 33cm high and is 27cm wide.
